University of Akron - Lee Jackson Track Facility
LOCATION: Akron, OH
The Lee Jackson Track Facility at the University of Akron renovation is a certified NCAA Division 1 track. This was accomplished by adding partial curbs to the outside of the track and closely studying the existing track grades to level the existing track oval.
Steeplechase moved to turn two with new water and drain connections. The long and triple jump were rebuilt with pits facing both north and south. The pole vault runways were renovated with a new pad for the pit allowing it run both north and south. The existing javelin was renovated for practice, while a new javelin was constructed as part of the renovated high jump once the former steeplechase was removed.
In addition to new perimeter fencing, we improved grading and drainage and added safety netting along the hammer throw. New accessible walkways were added along the existing bleachers. We conducted construction administration with weekly site visits for this project. We were on-site a minimum of 4 hours per week. The University hosted the MAC Championships at this facility in 2023.
