BROADWAY AVENUE STREETSCAPE

LORAIN, OHIO

Behnke served as the landscape architectural subconsultant to the engineer lead for the Broadway Avenue Streetscape project. This road serves as the main corridor for Downtown Lorain. Our team had to adhere to strict ODOT design standards, while also developing a safe and welcoming pedestrian environment. This streetscape improvement was designed to be dynamic, iconic, comfortable, and safe pedestrian corridor, while also promoting economic revitalization for the businesses in the downtown district. Our scope of work included:

  • Design that conformed with ODOT standards and City of Lorain standards.

  • Colored / stamped concrete in medians and additional special zones.

  • Streetscape plantings, site furnishings, and lighting coordination.

  • Placemaking signage and graphic art coordination.

This project contained a highly interactive design development process that included the engineer lead, the city, and the signage designer. The large ‘Broadway Avenue arches’ help define this corridor, further designating Downtown Lorain as a special district.
