Elyria City Schools - Northwood Campus

LOCATION: Elyria, OH

Behnke Landscape Architecture developed the site plan for the Northwood Campus, a new LEED-Gold, PK-8 school facility. The existing 17-acre site contained an Early Childhood Center, several athletic fields, wooded areas, and wetlands.

Developing a new site plan while preserving the natural buffers and wetlands created some special challenges for incorporating new site features. Site components include two separate entries with drop-off lanes, full vehicular access around the building, a new practice field, two age-specific playgrounds, an outdoor dining patio, an outdoor courtyard, and public parking.

Additionally, this campus was also designed to promote pedestrian access, bicycle access, and other modes of green transportation. Lastly, this plan calls for all stormwater to be contained on-site and for earthwork to be balanced during construction.
