Elyria City Schools - Westwood Campus

LOCATION: Elyria, OH

Behnke Landscape Architecture developed the site plan for the Westwood Campus, a new LEED-Gold, PK-8 school facility. The large property sat on the site of a separate elementary school, a separate middle school, the school district board offices, and several athletic practice fields.

The site design was primarily influenced by these existing facilities, as several of the buildings still remain. Site components included three separate entries with drop-off lanes, full vehicular access around the building, a new practice field, two playgrounds catering to specific age groups, an outdoor dining patio, an outdoor courtyard, and sufficient public parking.

Additionally, this campus was also designed to promote pedestrian access, bicycle access, and other modes of green transportation. Lastly, the plan called for all stormwater to be contained on-site and for earthwork to be balanced during construction.
