Hamilton Elementary School

LOCATION: Elyria, OH

CLIENT: Elyria City Schools

Behnke Landscape Architecture developed the site plan for Hamilton Elementary, a new LEED-Gold, PK-4 school facility. The small 4.75 acre site created spacing challenges for the incorporated site uses.

Campus components include separate parent and bus drop-off lanes, two playgrounds catering to specific age groups, an open field for outdoor activities, a full service yard, and sufficient public parking. Additionally, this campus was also designed to promote pedestrian access, bicycle access, and other modes of green transportation. Lastly, this plan calls for all stormwater to be contained on-site in underground chambers.

Due to the small, urban nature of this property, this site was designed to minimize paved surfaces and maximize natural areas that can be utilized for class activities and recreation. By enhancing the green space, this allows the Hamilton property to be an asset to the students and the surrounding community.
