Short Family Tennis Center
LOCATION: John Carroll University - University Heights, OH
Our team worked with John Carroll University assessing several site options for bringing their NCAA tennis program back to campus. After an extensive master planning effort, the University chose to place this new six-court stadium adjacent to Shula Stadium, the football, soccer, and lacrosse venue for campus with seating for 200 spectators.
The tennis facility has a restroom and storage facility that can also be utilized by Shula Stadium on game days and maintains emergency and media access to the stadium. The tennis stadium removed two University owned houses and three deteriorated tennis courts to build this new facility. This facility had over 8’ of grade change, prior to construction.
When not utilized by the tennis teams, the facility is open for use by both staff and students. Behnke coordinated both NCAA tennis level lighting sighted to reduce glare and a new scoreboard engineered and sighted for a second board to be utilized for Shula Stadium.
