Behnke served as the landscape architectural subconsultant to the engineer lead. Our team designed streetscape improvements to create a more dynamic, comfortable, and safe pedestrian experience, and to encourage economic revitalization in the Larchmere Arts District.
It was a highly interactive design development process with both cities, the local merchant/resident group, and the artist, which resulted in a design to make Larchmere an attractive destination through placemaking elements that match the character of the historic area. Those elements include gateway treatments, pervious paver and tree biofiltration accent strips, decorative crosswalks which compliment colors from the local architecture, site furnishings, public art in the form of bicycle racks, selective tree replacement, wayfinding signage, and street sign toppers with the Larchmere logo.
