ST. LUKE’S INTERGENERATIONAL PLAYSCAPE

CLEVELAND, OHIO

The Intergenerational Playscape at Saint Luke’s provides a welcoming and engaging recreational opportunity for users of all ages and abilities. The design accommodates both school-age children and mature adults. It is designed to be a multi-sensory experience that facilitates physical, social, emotional, and mental health. User opportunities promote collaboration, creativity, and active and passive recreation through natural and man-made features.

After a series of stakeholder meetings and charrettes, Behnke Landscape Architecture developed a plan for the diverse set of users at St. Luke’s. The plan provides active recreational opportunities that include; play equipment, gaming tables, tunnels, and raised garden beds. The design also incorporates passive opportunities that include; shaded areas to rest on a bench, a native meadow with pathways, and gently sloping paved walkways for those with disabilities.
