Skeeles’ Baseball Stadium
LOCATION: University of Akron - Akron, OH
Behnke Landscape Architecture and their team of consultants provided professional design services for the renovation and conversion of Skeeles’ Field from a grass to a synthetic turf field.
This conversion included all required drainage and site preparation. The existing field posed many challenges with over 6’ of grade change and limited drainage and unsafe bullpens & dugouts. Behnke worked within a very tight budget to deliver an elite baseball field for the Akron Zips.
Following construction of the turf field, Behnke’s services were retained to provide design and construction management services for a 300 seat miter bleacher, press box with filming platform, scoreboard and sound system. To maximize views of the field and take advantage of the natural hillside at the baseball field, Behnke designed a rear aisleway with a bridge to the existing accessible walk. The bleachers complement the multiple mounds Behnke placed for additional seating surrounding the stadium.
