Once JCU started gathering funding for their various athletic projects, they began to commission Behnke Landscape Architecture to prepare plans for the removal and replacement of the existing Wasmer Field synthetic turf at Don Shula Stadium. Due to the field’s high usage, Behnke was engaged to specify a field capable of around-the-clock use, met both the current G-Max and international HIC impact attenuation test ratings of less than 1000 at 1.3M, and was sympathetic to campus environmental standards. With an e-layer nearing 25 years, it was replaced with a Brock Powerbase YSR. The shockpad was included in the bid as an alternate and was a known cost. This helped the client avoid costly extras during construction. Additionally, four different turf vendors with two different turf were included in the bid proposal, maximizing turf options for our client. A TPE infill was donated with a sand base.
In this project, Behnke also utilized our synthetic turf history to craft a synthetic turf specification that eliminates loopholes sometimes used to void the turf warranty. Examples of our specialized warranty include: the warranty may not be voided due to excessive use and the turf installer may not void warranty for use of snow removal equipment.
